fixing cannot open rich text editor:

edit C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033\htmledit.aspx

change RenderActiveX script with second script in article and than just restart IIS.

It will work again.

I’m getting a “cannot open rich text editor” in content editor webparts after installing SP3 for WSS and SPS.

I’ve run through a bunch of supposed fixes (rereg dlls, install langage packs, etc( but none work. I dont’ run vista BTW.

Anu, I’m getting same issue, afer install of SP3. Anyone know what’s up with this? I can’t find anything about how to take care of this. The parts were working properly before SP3, and they were Web Parts provided by WSS, not made on my own.

MJ Saxton, — I’m using WSS 3, and don’t see the options listing that you describe here. Is that just for version 2?

Hello Matthias,
the fix you suggested for “Edit in datasheet..” issue worked perfectly.
Do you have a solution for “Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as FrontPage. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.” – which started after the same Service Pack 3 got installed.

We found the inability to edit list columns was caused by a change in the user rights for virtual servers. Specifically, “Manage List Permissions” and “Manage Lists” were mysteriously unchecked after applying SP3.

So, if needed…
– Go to Windows SharePoint Services Central Administration
– Under Virtual Server Configuration, select “Configure Virtual Server Settings”
– Select your virtual server form the list
– Under Security Settings, select “Manage user rights for virtual server”
– Under Rights -> List Rights, ensure the “Manage List Permissions” and “Manage Lists” are both checked.
– Select the OK button.

We then did an IISReset just to be sure. We may now edit our list columns at will.

Hi, I also had the datasheet view problem. It seems to be a javascript problem and I described a workaround: http://www.mg2.de/sharepoint-2003/service-pack-3/

We too had the same issue. Luckily Microsoft is investigating it for free. We had to re-create one of the front-end servers from one of the back-up we had.
Besides the ‘Edit in datasheet’, we were also getting the error – “Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem, open this Web page in a Windows SharePoint Services-compatible HTML editor such as FrontPage. If the problem persists, contact your Web server administrator.”

After the OS installed it from MS’s “Automatic Updates” our subwebs and sites under the sites folder won’t allow the anonymous browsing.
