SharePoint: WSS Installation On A DC – PSConfig Goodness
Using Configuration Wizard without the wizard! That’s right.
This has nothing to do with our installation that we have done so far. However, I think you should know about this very powerful exe file that ships with this version of Windows SharePoint Services v3.
psconfig
Yeah. This is the exe behind your configuration wizard. To let you on a secret, use this instead of the GUI. It is much quicker. The wait for ten gruelling steps using GUI to finish is no fun.
Just use the following command and see how quickly the configuration is completed.
psconfig -cmd setup
You will find this exe in %systemdrive%Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedweb server extensions12BIN
Grab PSConfig.CHM (Help file for PSConfig) from %systemdrive%Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedweb server extensions12Help1033
Why?
For starters, you could pre-configure database for your sharepoint installation.
Secondly, if you had a botched up installation and can’t run the setup again, psconfig will help you
